This pilot study aims to determine if patients untrained in performing ultrasound can self-scan to obtain images under remote clinician teleguidance during a simulated telehealth encounter. This study also seeks to describe the patients’ comfort level and barriers to performing an ultrasound examination on themselves using a handheld ultrasound device.

Physicians draw on their training and their lived experience taking care of patients in the built environment. Healthcare professionals should not minimize the essential role they can play in facility design.

The Global Studio and the Health and Design Collaborative at Jefferson Health Design for Infection Control Units in Malawi

The PURE Initiative Point-of-care Ultrasound in Resource-limited Environments includes over 120 physicians from 10 countries with interests in global health, ultrasound and medical education as it relates to training in emergency medicine, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery and critical care, and more.

I have co-designed retreats for health care professionals, resident physicians at Mount Sinai West, and point-of-care ultrasound faculty and fellows at Thomas Jefferson University. The process has been iterative and human centered to create a curriculum for wellness. The content focuses on self and group health, recharging from the demanding emergency department environment, and professional development. See 2022 publication. See 2022 publication.
